Q & A » Interview: Janie de Wit

Running her own gym, helping clients reach their fitness goals and finding time to do her own training. How does Janie de Wit manage to fit it all into one day? We catch up with this Diva Bikini competitor to see how she does it all.

Q: What's the biggest lesson you learnt from 2014?

From a competing perspective I've learn't that you can't be stage ready all the time. You have to learn to find a balance between your on and off season. This was a difficult one for me to learn. I had to accept that no matter how hard I've worked to be on that stage, after a show staying healthy and fit should be my main focus.

I have also learnt how to listen to my body. When it's too much and when I can still push it that little bit further. I love competing, but I have also realised that you can only peak as many times as your body allows you to.

Q: What are your future plans for 2015?

As a proud Evox Sponsored Athlete and with a passion for the fitness, I want to focus on being an inspiration to more people everyday and on making a difference in other people's lives. This year I'll also be busy with a lot of photoshoots and marketing while still working as a personal trainer and running my privately owned gym. I also plan to step on stage at this year's WBFF South Africa on the 14th of June.

Q: Who are you sponsored by?

Evox Advanced Nutrition

Q: Your top training and nutritional tips?

Nutrition is the most important aspect for me. I believe in eating 5 to 6 small balanced meals daily. These should be made up of the three primary macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrates). Staying hydrated, consuming enough water and taking the right supplements to complement your goals is also very important. As a personal trainer I am very focused on form and range of motion when performing an exercise. It makes a big difference. Making sure it's mission perfected and not mission completed. If that specific exercise makes you feel uncomfortable while doing it, then you know you are doing it right.

Q: What advice do you have for girls looking to get into the fitness industry?

I just want to make this really clear: There will never be a easy and quick way to lose weight. If you're really serious about making a lifestyle change then you have to realise that it will take time, determination, sacrifice. Getting a coach who has been through it all and who has the experience and knowledge, from nutrition to training can really be the best investment you'll ever make. Risking your health and going to the extremes in transforming your body, will definitely lead to long term damage and lots of tears and regrets. Part of being in the fitness industry is about finding yourself and loving yourself.

Q: What's a day like in the life of Janie?

Each day I get up at 04h05 (yes, that extra 5 minutes makes a huge difference..lol). I'll have a cup of strong filter coffee and half a grapefruit taken with my GCC Lean from Evox. At about 05h00 I'll hit the gym for my morning cardio session. From 06h30 to 10h00 I'm with clients. From there I will prep my meals and spend time in the Word of God, before seeing clients again from 13h00 to 17h00. Fueled by my 3DT2 pre workout and L-Glutamine from Evox, I head to the gym for my second session (weight training). Another highlight of my day is taking my Evox Synergy Whey shake (Choc mint flavour), post training and then I'll have my last meal for the day at around 19h30. The rest of my time is spent with the man I love and adore with all my heart. Together we'll have a quick and powerful Bible study session before ending the day in prayer.

Q: Why did you want to become a part of the fitness industry?

My own transformation stirred up a desire to help others. I want to inspire and motivate others to achieve their goals because to me the fitness industry is like one big fit family. We have all been through the same things and we will continue going through them together.

Q: What kind of training do you do?

I am currently preparing for WBFF South Africa, so I follow a specific training programme. I love a challenge and my coach WBFF Pro Louise from Extreme Figures (and fellow Evox team mate), makes sure that every workout is worth the blood, sweat and tears. My training is a bit of everything, from strength training, intervals and cardio to plyometrics.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

I love reading my Bible and praying. I love spending time with loved ones. My favorite place to go when I have the time and where I do research on new exercises and training methods would be at the gym on the treadmill.

Q: Did you always want to be a part of this industry?

Yes, my love for fitness ignited from the moment I started my weight loss journey. I have a passion for people and helping others will always be a part of me. I will always encourage and admire anyone who is trying to better themselves.
