Q & A » Interview: Hanneké Dannhauser

Last year she was one of our USN Face of Fitness top six contestants, she's a Warrior Race champion and next year she plans to take part in Triathlons.

Q: What's the biggest lesson you learnt from 2014?

I’ve learnt that anything can happen! Winning is irrelevant, progress is the key! The only person you have to be better than, is the person you were yesterday! Look up. Get up. Never give up!

Q: Who are you sponsored by?

USN

Q: Your top training and nutritional tips?

I see each training session as a test. You go to the gym to sweat, so sweat! Don’t waste your own precious time, give it your all every session and you can expect progress every time.
I’ve learned that in nutrition the greatest mistake one can make is to starve yourself. Learn to listen to your body, eat when you are hungry! No, not just anything. I usually choose to eat foods that are less processed, with little to no sugar.

Q: What's a day like in the life of Hanneké?

I rise early to hit the gym. Get some work done, eat something and then try to I fit in another training session around lunch time. I usually end my day off with a nice running session (if time allows). In the evenings it's family time. I love to just relax and enjoy the company of my better half!

Q: What's your biggest fitness secret?

If I tell you it wouldn’t be a secret anymore, but I love to share so here it goes: Don’t eat processed foods!

Q: How did you get started in the Warrior race series?

I love a challenge and when my training partner told me about South Africa’s biggest OCR (Obstacle Course Race) I just had to try it. It was even better than I’d expected it to be. It was challenging yet fun and after that I was hooked, for life!

Q: What kind of training do you do?

I like to do functional training and then spice it up with some CrossFit style workouts. Then because there is a lot of running involved in my sport, I run if time permits.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

Usually I spend time with my family and friends, just enjoying their company.

Q: With so many warrior race wins under your belt, what's next?

The most intriguing thing about OCR is that there is always a new challenge. Every race is different. I am currently preparing to go to the OCR World Championships in Cincinnati Ohio, in October. As for 2016, I want to broaden my horizons by participating in some Triathlons.
